Новый птеродактиль из позднего мела Ливана: Mimodactylus libanensis

Образец найден в позднемеловом отложениях (~ 95 млн лет назад) Гьогле Лагерштетте (Hjoûla Lagerstätte), Ливан.

Это месторождение известно со времен средневековья с прекрасно сохранившимися рыбами и беспозвоночными, но не четвероногими, которые чрезвычайно редки.

Mimodactylus libanensis gen. и т. д. ноябрю отличается от других видов афро-арабских птерозавров, названных до настоящего времени, и тесно связан с китайским видом Haopterus gracilis, образуя новую кладку зубчатых птерозавров. Mimodactylidae clade nov. связанна с Istiodactylidae, совместно обозначаемые как Istiodactyliformes (clade nov.).
